With over 900 supermarkets, Albert Heijn is the largest grocery chain
owned & operated by Ahold Delhaize. Every day it brings good, safe,
sustainable and healthy food to millions of customers.

Albert Heijn wanted to make goods accessible at on-the-go locations in a convenient, checkout-free store format.

Deploy a Store

AiFi developed a custom NanoStore tailored to Albert Heijn’s needs. Dubbed ‘AH To Go’ the 250 square foot staff less store used AiFi’s AI Powered autonomous platform with
machine learning, edge computing and scalable computer vision technology to provide a checkout free shopping experience.

AiFi seamlessly identifies the products that shoppers are taking off the shelves and uses cameras to determine their purchases. No
personal data is retained, and all servers are located on site.

AiFi also partnered with ING to handle the payment processing.

“It works simply: When the customer shows a payment card at the entrance, the door opens and the store starts to register the purchase of products that the customer takes from the shelves. When the shopping is done, the customer stands at the exit and sees the total amount on a display.”

Roel Popping, director of payments at ING Netherlands.
Customer Testimonial
CEO Albert Heijn
“This latest concept not only makes shopping very easy due to its autonomous nature, this ‘plug and play’ store can be placed at locations where there is a temporary need for a small store [...] the store can always be open, which is useful for people who are on the road very early or very late.”
